memories
Create some fabulous memories today.
CAREGIVER NOTE:
Make time to listen to the memories. Dementia and Alzheimer’s rob the memories and today may be the last time you hear the story. Drag out the photo albums or memory books. Take time to identify people in the photos. Record stories – record them singing or just talking. There will come a day when you’ll want to hear their voice again….

Make it a RAK (Random Act of Kindness) sort of day —
CAREGIVER NOTE:
Remember all of this is “new” to both of you. You’re headed into new territory and while some of the experiences you’ve had as a caregiver may be familiar, they aren’t to the person you’re providing care for and the path you’re taking now will not be exactly the same as the path you took previously. Be kind and patient with yourself and repeat the process as often as needed – especially with your elder at this time.
Celebrate!!!

CAREGIVER NOTE:
It was a tough day. Short term memory – went MIA yesterday. An earlier in the day 3 hour excursion in the truck was totally missing from his memory bank. A fun conversation sharing his experiences with me after coming home was also gone. While difficult, it didn’t escalate. He later stated that it’s very scary when he can’t remember things. We stated very plainly throughout the remainder of the day that we’re here to support him and would always be here for him and hoped that he would continue to trust us as he continues to move through the aging process.
