CAREGIVER NOTE:

New security system has been installed. So far, it’s a novelty to him, and he just asks a few questions here and there. Yesterday, he wanted to hear the doorbell. It’s very loud — we can hear it throughout the house. He likes the video thing too…. He thought that was cool. He hasn’t thought too much about going outside the last couple of days as it’s been rather chilly… but I do know there will be a day in the future that he may get out of the house for a little fresh air before I can catch him and we’ll be able to find him a little more quickly if that does happen.

Spread a little joy today.

CAREGIVER NOTE:

We listened carefully last evening while he “crooned” to one of the babies that was a little fussy. I don’t think I’ve ever heard the Army Anthem sung as a lullaby before! It was precious and a memory that will live long in our memories . He enjoyed being surrounded by family — once everyone had arrived and there was food ready to be eaten. We had an early Thanksgiving dinner with family and it was delightful.

You are never without a miracle or two.

CAREGIVER NOTE:

We got to take a quick walk around the cul de sac yesterday. He said he enjoyed being out in the fresh air, but wasn’t sure he would be able to make the walk in a day or so as he was pretty winded and tired by the time he got into the house again. I asked him to consider the option — and we’d look at how he was feeling the next day. Fingers crossed it won’t be too chilly for him to want to venture out. But we’ll see.

Stop and celebrate some moment in your day today!

CAREGIVER NOTE:

He learned that the house has been sold and all the t’s crossed and i’s dotted. The buyer starts moving in tomorrow. He’s not sure what to do now that he doesn’t have to worry about the house, property taxes, utility bills, etc. We didn’t realize how “big” those things were in his mind. Now to find something else to fill that space.

CAREGIVER NOTE:

We had the “talk” last evening. He initiated it and was wondering if we had intentions of putting him into a nursing home if his memory issues got worse. We told him we were in for the long haul and he was here with us for the rest of his life. We talked about the living arrangements — his bedroom, the bathroom and time with family. He seemed very happy and relieved about that as he understood (for a little while, at least) that his former home has been sold and no longer belongs to him and he can’t go back there to live. We’ll see how today rolls out…. as it’s unlikely he will remember our visit last evening.
