from lessons learned

Be a lifelong “becomer.”

CAREGIVER NOTE:

Always keep extra batteries on hand. One of his most loved perpetual motion toys requires batteries. Unfortunately, we hadn’t gotten a fresh supply of them last week when we went shopping. The battery died yesterday. The movement of that particular toy is a constant during his waking hours. He’s hooked on the thing. He took the toy apart several times — hoping that placing the old battery back in would fix the problem. When that didn’t work, he took the main piece off the base and just twirled the circles around and around with his hands for a while. There’s a fresh battery in the toy this morning and he’ll be very happy to “turn it on” and watch it move throughout the day.

always a good one….

Be your best you.

CAREGIVER NOTE:

The “funk” has gone. He rediscovered his computer game and was able to successfully play it for a couple of hours. He was excited and hopefully, the new lighting in that area will continue to help with his fading eyesight. He still doesn’t want any assistive devices for his keyboard, so we’ll see how things roll out in the course of the next few weeks.

work….

Make a dream come true!

CAREGIVER NOTE:

Weekly outings have been so important. Son and father spending time together. Shopping, sight-seeing… and so much more. They come back exhausted but happy to have spent the time doing something together. They generally finish their outing with a late lunch before coming home. We hear the “tales” of the day – the good, the bad and the laughable. Both grateful for the visit and time spent catching up and exploring new things.
