make it happen

CAREGIVER NOTE:

Sundowning? Yep, it’s becoming a daily part of our lives. Last night was a little worse than the night before. He chose to take a break (no suggestion from anyone else) and after a few minutes of “quiet” rest in his room, came back and was in good spirits again, even joking around a bit for the remainder of the evening.

Level up…

CAREGIVER NOTE:

Disappointments and misunderstandings – the emotions and feelings are huge sometimes when the timelines don’t fit what they had envisioned as being the order of the day. Luckily, we were able to distract and reframe what the schedule would look like for the remainder of the day and into the next 24 hours. Hoping the birthday “level up” party planned for this weekend will brighten his outlook a bit.

the journey…

What will you discover on your path today?

CAREGIVER NOTE:

Sometimes you catch a glimpse of another side that doesn’t often present itself to you… I’ve noticed that after some of our most recent conversations, I have been the recipient of an honest expression of compassion, concern and a love that doesn’t often show in our daily interactions. There’s a softness about him at times that fills the heart. Helping him navigate through the growing dementia, though not always easy is worth it.

CAREGIVER NOTE:

I think we’ll all be grateful when the pending sale goes through. Anxiety levels about “what could go wrong” are through the roof; disrupting sleeping, eating routines and more. Thankfully, the “going wrong” moments are few and far between. He’s very anxious about things, however, and no matter what we choose to try to distract him with, doesn’t work for very long. Counting down the days until the closing…. and hopefully, he’ll be able to rest a little easier for a while.

CAREGIVER NOTE:

New med seems to be helping. No night terrors or hallucinations. He’s slept 2 nights in a row without any disruptions. He’s also liking the fact that he only has to take 4 meds at night instead of 5 now. He’s taking daily walks now that the weather has turned really nice and is enjoying spending a little time outside. He checks the garden area daily for changes and is thrilled to watch the birds empty the feeders daily.
